Fanny Mendelssohn (1805-1847): Piano Trio in D minor, Op.11

The programme features an all-female line-up of composers across three centuries: Fanny Mendelssohn, the prodigiously talented sister of Felix Mendelssohn; Louise Farrenc, a celebrated virtuoso pianist and the first female ever appointed as a Professor at the Paris Conservatoire; Amy Beach, first female composer to have a symphony performed by a major American orchestra; and Hilary Tann's beautiful work which centres around Mary Oliver's poetry on birdsong and birdflight. These women rebelled against societal expectations to follow their passion for music.
